2024 & beyond Lex leader

"I'm overflowing with gratitude and pride! As a FosterClub AllStar intern, I had the incredible opportunity to facilitate my own group project workshop, using an amazing activity provided by FosterClub. But that's not all - I also got to design and lead my own wind down workshop, sharing music, movement, and dance therapy with the youth!

With my own lived experience navigating the overall child welfare system for 8 years - a journey that included time in foster care, group homes, treatment facilities, independent living in community sites and apartments, treatment programs, detention, and more - I've got a deep understanding of the complexities and challenges that come with it. And, as part of the AllStar internship, I've received lived experience training, equipping me to amplify the perspectives of myself and other young people who've experienced the system.

This 6-week hybrid program has given me the tools and training to advocate for myself and others, using my story to drive systemic change. From leadership training to improving outcomes for youth transitioning to adulthood, I've been empowered to make a real difference. And, I got to do it all in beautiful Oregon, surrounded by like-minded individuals who share my passion for creating positive change.

But that's not all - I'm also thrilled to have made incredible connections with staff, interns, and partners who share my passion for advocacy and empowerment. I'm excited to collaborate and get support for my own nonprofit venture, as well as tap into expertise in real estate and the entertainment industry. The connections I've made will be invaluable in helping me drive impact and create meaningful change.

I've also been provided with business cards and comprehensive training modules, which means I can now confidently facilitate workshops and provide training in any facility, anywhere. And, I get to take this expertise back home to Buffalo, to make a difference in my own community!

Note: When you see my bio mention 8 years, it's because I've included my entire journey through the child welfare system, not just my time in foster care. I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in this program at my age, and I'm excited to see what the future holds.
